Partnership with the Facilitation Commitee
In 1997, COP.1 endorsed collaborative institutional arrangements between the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Bank (WB) in support of the Global Mechanism, including the establishment of the Facilitation Committee (FC) of the Global Mechanism (Decision 25/COP. 1).
The FC was conceived as a demand-driven advisory body to the GM, providing support on how to develop its operations and scope and mandated to foster collaborative institutional arrangements between the GM and institutions with relevant technical and financial expertise to support the GM’s operations.
COP.3 subsequently invited the FC members to enhance their support to the GM by exploring new financial resources, and by mobilizing additional financial resources from their respective institutions (Decision 9).
The frequency of FC meetings is determined by the objectives set and the venue is decided upon pragmatically, according to the international commitments of its members.
The GM acts as the FC Secretariat and its Managing Director reports to COP on the FC’s activities.
