The GM’s role
The GM has played a key role in shaping the TerrAfrica agenda to date - to ensure that TerrAfrica responds to the needs of the UNCCD and supports its implementation:
- the GM was a co-convener of the Paris Meeting in June 2004 where initial thoughts on TerrAfrica were discussed to chart the way forward on how the platform would be developed;
- the GM subsequently convened a follow-up meeting in Rome, where the development partners made inputs into the TerrAfrica Operational Strategy and Business Plan of TerrAfrica;
- In September 2005, the GM and the World Bank co-financed a meeting in Johannesburg under the patronage of the NEPAD Secretariat to strategize on how African Governments can be enabled to drive the Initiative.
The GM has also designed the country engagement strategy of TerrAfrica.
