The process culminated in the official launching of the South African PPP by the Deputy Minister of Environment on 11 November, 2004 and the launching of the first public-private sector partnership fund to combat desertification by the Vice-President of Kenya, in May 2004.
Pledges were received from several corporate bodies and declarations to support NAP implementation were signed during the official launch of the PPP in South Africa. An agreement for R.500 million has since been signed between the Government of South Africa and Shell Solar to support renewable energy initiatives under the NAP. A resource mobilization strategy has been prepared to facilitate the mobilization of additional financial resources for NAP implementation in South Africa.
A National Desertification Trust Fund (NDTF) has been established in Kenya and declarations of support from private sector corporations have been received.
