Public-Private Partnership Initiative (PPP)

The Sixth Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP.6) requested the GM to support resource mobilization efforts through new sources of financing such as private capital, foreign direct investment, funding from multilateral institutions, and grants from private foundations.

COP.7 subsequently called for the GM to intensify its interactions with international financial institutions such as the private sector with the aim of increasing financial resources for UNCCD implementation.

Recognizing the potential of public-private partnerships in providing resources for UNCCD implementation, the GM has launched an innovative pilot programme to engage the business community more effectively in NAP implementation in South Africa and Kenya.

It is hoped that the lessons from this initiative will provide significant inputs for other affected country Parties in mobilizing additional resources for National Action Programme (NAP) implementation.
