Expected outcomes
It is hoped that the Initiative will facilitate the continuous positioning of the UNCCD and SLM at the core of development in the sub-region, through, inter alia:
- identifying the root causes of land degradation in the sub-region;
- developing a regional strategy to address land degradation and desertification; and
- establishing a regional partnership comprising affected countries, bilateral and multilateral institutions, the business community, civil society organizations and other development partners.
