Approach & methodology

Country teams will develop Integrated Financing Strategies, using the methodologies and skills acquired during the training process.

These teams will also function as trainers-of-trainers in order to develop a critical mass of individuals who can advance the resource mobilization process.

It is expected that bringing together West Asian and North African countries will facilitate peer-to-peer exchange of experiences in resource mobilization.

The training courses will adopt an interactive methodology using a variety of tools including simulations, case studies and role-play, based on real-life scenarios and data.

Participants will be actively involved in developing these instruments, drawing on their personal experience and that of their countries.

The training programme is intended to strengthen teamwork among participants from the same country and between countries, to enable them to jointly develop Integrated Financing Strategies through a process of learning-by-doing.

The training process will consist of the following steps:

  • development of training materials;
  • organization of two sub-regional training workshops on key aspects of Integrated Financing Strategies - one in North Africa and one in West Asia;
  • application of the instruments and methodologies developed during the workshops to produce draft national Integrated Financing Strategies. During this phase, the GM will follow-up on the activities undertaken in the countries and provide technical backstopping to the country teams preparing the strategies; and
  • organization of a regional workshop at which the WANA countries will present and discuss their respective draft Integrated Financing Strategies which will be refined by drawing on innovative ideas emerging from the exchange. Participants will also discuss how to implement the Strategies through a participatory approach.
