Products & Services

As a special service provider in finance for UNCCD implementation, the GM supports countries in mobilizing resources for sustainable land management through a broad range of products and services.

The GM provides specialized advisory services on finance to countries and organizations interested in developing investment frameworks for sustainable land management at the country level.

A range of products are also designed and packaged to attract the interest of country Parties to the Convention, International Finance Institutions and other prospective donors with a view to establishing partnerships around specific strategic issues such as South-to-south cooperation, climate change, and trade.

The GM engages on various levels to optimize product and service provision:

Long-term engagement at country level
In a limited number of interested countries, the GM is undertaking longer-term engagement (3-5 years). The main focus is on mainstreaming and partnership building, governance issues, institutional development, the comprehensive policy environment and on developing integrated financing strategies to increase resource mobilization flows at the country level.

Strategic, targeted small-scale activities
On a demand-driven basis, the GM supports countries through a variety of small-scale, targeted activities. These activities also foster mainstreaming, partnership building, and the creation of an enabling environment for resource mobilization.

Subregional and regional initiatives
The GM works to increase its impact through subregional and regional initiatives by promoting dialogue and sharing experiences. Expert consultations and other events are used as vehicles to increase understanding of the GM’s specific role and the importance of the UNCCD as a development convention.

Global initiatives
The GM is actively involved in strategic initiatives at the global level together with other Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs), UN organizations and a broad range of strategic partners. These initiatives draw on the partners' added value and experiences with the objective of conveying the potential contribution the UNCCD can make to sustainable land management and poverty reduction, by generating synergies between different stakeholders to support country-level implementation of the UNCCD
