Solid arguments needed to mobilize resources
5 November, 2008
During the First Special Session of the Committee on Science and Technology (CST-S1) on how best to measure progress on the strategic objectives of the UNCCD’s Ten-Year Strategic Plan (10YSP) Mr Simone Quatrini, the Global Mechanism’s Coordinator for Policy & Investment Analysis made a statement highlighting the connections between all four strategic objectives.
He welcomed the proposal to involve the GM in the development of the indicators for Strategic Objective 4 of the 10YSP, on resource mobilization, and suggested capitalizing on the indicators embedded in GM’s results-based management framework.
In the subsequent debate on the budget for the CST’s multi-year work programme, Mr Quatrini took the floor stressing the importance of developing solid arguments to scale up investments in SLM. In this context, the GM offered to collaborate with the Drylands Science for Development (DSD) Consortium and advise the CST on the mobilization of resources in the run up to CST9.
