MD addresses IFAD's Governing Council

18 February, 2008

C. Mersmann at GC31

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), a specialized United Nations Agency and international financial institution, at the forefront of tackling land degradation and reducing rural poverty in countries most affected by desertification, has hosted the GM since it began its operations in 1998.

Addressing delegates from IFAD’s 164 member nations at the 31st Session of the Governing Council, Christian Mersmann, the GM’s Managing Director said, “this collaboration goes far beyond a hosting arrangement. Our joint engagement at country level is mutually beneficial. Indeed, as a provider of advisory services on public finance and private sector investments, the GM fully recognizes that close and open collaboration with IFAD is paramount for the achievements of the GM. Equally, the GM supports IFAD operations to achieve the integration of IFAD's portfolio into overall national development programmes in line with the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness and the efforts of the UN to ‘deliver as one’ to which IFAD fully subscribes”.
