Private sector engagement: GM side event at UNFCCC COP 13
5 December, 2007
Bali
The Global Mechanism (GM) is co-organizing a side event at the 13th Session of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP 13) in Bali on 5 December 2007, in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) Secretariat and EcoSecurities.
The event will launch a working group that was agreed on at an expert dialogue on ‘Investing in Emissions Reduction and Rural development’, held on 14 November 2007 in Rome. The working group has been established as part of a new initiative to promote engagement with the private sector on climate change mitigation and adaptation measures in the agricultural, rural and land sectors. The initiative represents an important step towards future partnerships between Rome-based UN organizations and the private sector, with the explicit aim of creating a platform for improving national-level coordination between governments and private companies and facilitating investment in climate change activities.
