Integrated financing strategy for combating desertification in Jordan

8 July, 2008 - 9 July, 2008
Amman, Jordan

The second multi-stakeholder workshop on advancing the development of an Integrated Financing Strategy (IFS) for Combating Desertification in Jordan, is being organized by the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation (MOPIC) and the Ministry of Environment (MoE), with the support of the GM in Amman, Jordan, on 8 and 9 July 2008.

An IFS is a GM product anchored in the national institutional setting, fully in line with the Ten-Year Strategic Plan and Framework to Enhance the Implementation of the UNCCD. It guides the process towards the establishment of an investment framework for UNCCD implementation, by mobilizing a blend of financial resources, including from innovative sources.

This workshop is a milestone in the preparation of the IFS as it brings together 75 representatives from Government, the donor community, Community-based organizations and the private sector, to discuss key findings of the interim analysis of the national context, and opportunities for mobilizing finance from internal, external and innovative sources.

The outcomes of this consultation will help to further sharpen the IFS for mobilizing a blend of financing for the implementation of on-the-ground sustainable land management  projects, and will facilitate the enhancement of the enabling policy, legislative, institutional and incentive frameworks that influence resource mobilizaiton.
