GM co-organizes training course on designing integrated financing strategies in Iran

23 February, 2008 - 25 February, 2008
Tehran, Iran

The GM is organizing a training course on Designing Integrated Financing Strategies (DIFS), in partnership with the Forest Range and Watershed Management Organization (FRWO), from 23 to 25 February 2008, in Tehran, Iran.

DIFS is a GM initiative in the framework of the Regional Programme for Sustainable Development of the Drylands of West Asia and North Africa (WANA Programme) and is financed by the OPEC Fund for International Development and the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC).

DIFS aims to improve the enabling environment for investment in sustainable land management (SLM) in dryland areas and to develop capacity to design and implement national and multi-country strategies to mobilize financial resources.

This training session will bring together UNCCD stakeholders, in a peer-to-peer exchange of experiences with the ultimate goal of jointly developing Integrated Financing Strategies through a process of learning-by-doing. DIFS adopts an interactive methodology using a variety of tools including simulations, case studies and role-plays, based on real-life scenarios and data. Participants are actively involved in developing these instruments, drawing on their personal experiences and that of their countries.

It is expected that by the end of the training course, participants will have acquired an in-depth understanding of the decision-making processes involved in resource allocation for activities to combat land degradation and poverty and enhanced their capacity to develop and manage the process of mainstreaming National Action Plans (NAPs) into strategic frameworks for UNCCD implementation.

More information will be posted here after the training session.
