Central Asian Strategic Partnership Agreement meeting and Training Course on Designing Integrated Financing Strategies for Central Asian Countries

22 April, 2008 - 26 April, 2008
Ashgabat, Turkmenistan

In conjunction with Central Asian Countries Initiative for Land Management (CACILM) 2nd Steering Committee, the GM is convening a meeting of the Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) members on 22 April 2008, with a view to exploring means of supporting the resource mobilization process for the second phase of CACILM that will be launched in 2009.

Attention will focus on how to strengthen the process of mainstreaming sustainable land management (SLM) into the SPA members’ programming framework and how to enhance coordination between the members for designing joint or complementary projects for phase two.

The GM has co-organized a training course on Designing Integrated Financing Strategies (DIFS) for this purpose, in partnership with other SPA members, on 25 &26 April 2008.

The workshop will bring together stakeholders participating in the Steering Committee meeting, including UNCCD Focal Points, heads of CACILM National Secretariats, members of the National Coordination Councils in the five Central Asian Countries (CACs), as well as members of the SPA that made CACILM a reality.

The initiative seeks to promote the development of integrated financing strategies in the 5 CACs, through an in-depth training course with a view to increasing understanding of the DIFS programme, initiating the process towards its adoption in these countries, and agreeing to its implementation modalities.
