Asian Development Bank (ADB)

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is a multilateral development finance institution established in 1966. It is dedicated to reducing poverty in Asia and the Pacific providing finance to governments, to be invested in development projects.

Description

The Bank is committed to extending loans and equity investments to its developing member countries (DMCs) for their economic and social development, providing technical assistance for the planning and execution of development projects and programmes and for advisory services, promoting and facilitating investment of public and private capital for development and responding to requests for assistance in coordinating development policies and plans of its developing member countries.

It operates by means of technical assistance, grants, guarantees and leveraging of financial resources through co-financing activities.

All operations are managed through ordinary capital resources, as well as Special Funds. The Special Funds are funds designed to meet the needs of the poorest borrowing countries, as they provide loans at very competitive interest rates, to be used to finance pro-development projects.

Among the main Special Funds administered by the Bank are:

ADB is currently operating in additional sectors, such as health, agriculture and disaster and emergency assistance. It will continue to support activities in such areas, but on a more selective basis.

Calls for proposal to participate in the Bank’s financing are typically issued every two months, information on how to access financing is available on the website.
