The Energy and Environment Partnership with the Mekong Region (EEP Mekong) initiative, funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and the Nordic Development Fund, seeks to support renewable energy-related activities and improve technology transfer in the Mekong region.
OBJECTIVE
To combat the negative impact of climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and facilitating access to clean energy in the Mekong region; to pool resources towards sustainable practices in the field of renewable energy services.
RECIPIENTS
Public and private sector actors; service providers; NGOs; cooperatives; universities; and research institutes. Partnerships are allowed. However, multilateral institutions; development agencies; and trust funds are not eligible to receive financial support.
GEOGRAPHIC COVERAGE
The Mekong region (Cambodia; Laos; Thailand; Vietnam). Projects with a regional coverage are also eligible.
FOCUS AREA
This fund operates in the area of mitigation of climate change (including clean technology; energy efficiency; renewable energy; and waste-to-energy). Projects that demonstrate strong cooperation between donors and local implementers are preferred.
Project proposals must refer to one or more of the following activities: (i) pre-feasibility study; (ii) feasibility study; (iii) pilot project; and (iv) demonstration project. Policy development studies; strategic studies; capacity building activities; and training are not eligible activities.
To receive finance, initiatives must also include one or more of the following technologies: biofuels; biogas; biomass; energy efficiency and conservation; geothermal; hydropower; solar; and waste-to-energy.
HOW TO APPLY
The fourth call for proposals for EEP Mekong closed on 13 August 2012 and pre-selection will start on 22 October 2012. Future rounds of calls will be announced on the website.
