The Global Mechanism (GM) was established by the Parties to the Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) to act as a hub for a dynamic network of partners committed to focusing their energies, resources and knowledge on combating desertification.

As defined in Article 21, paragraph 5(a) of the UNCCD, and in Decisions 11/COP.1, 24/COP.1 (Annex), and 25/COP.1, one of the tasks of the GM is to collect and disseminate information.

The GM web site, www.global-mechanism.org, and all pages in its domain (together, the "GM Web Site") is part of this process.

In order to protect the interests of the GM when the GM Web Site is used, this disclaimer shall be applied and respected by all Users.
 
1. Terms and Conditions of Use of the GM Web Site
The use of the GM Web Site is subject to the terms and conditions set forth below.
  • The contents and use of the GM Web Site are the sole responsibility of the GM that will maintain and administer this site as a courtesy to those who may choose to access it. The information contained herein is for informative purposes only. The GM is pleased to allow Users to visit the GM Web Site and to download and copy information, documents and materials for the User’s personal, non-commercial use, without any right to resell, redistribute or create derivative works therefrom, subject to the terms and conditions outlined below, and also subject to more specific restrictions that may apply to specific content on the GM Web Site.
  • The GM provides the information contained in the GM Web Site solely as a resource for the Users without any form of assurance. While the GM tries to provide high quality content on its web site, it does not guarantee the accuracy, reliability or timeliness of this information and therefore will not be liable in any capacity for damages or losses to the User that may result from the use of this information. The GM shall not be held responsible for any errors, omissions or inadvertent alterations that may occur in the disclosure of content on the GM Web Site.
    The GM reserves its exclusive right in its sole discretion to alter, limit or discontinue the site or any materials in any respect. The GM shall have no obligation to take the needs of any User into consideration in connection therewith.
  • The GM reserves the right to deny, in its sole discretion, any User accesses to the GM Web Site or any portion thereof ,without notice.
    The findings, interpretations and conclusions expressed in the materials in the GM Web Site are those of the various authors of the work and are not necessarily those of Global Mechanism.
  • The use of particular designations of economies, countries or territories does not imply any judgement by the GM as to the stage reached in the development process, the legal status of such countries or territories, of their authorities and institutions or of the delimitation of their boundaries.
  • Users agree to indemnify the GM from and against any and all actions, claims, losses, damages, liabilities and expenses (including lawyers' fees) arising from use of the GM Web Site. This includes, without limitation, any claims alleging facts that if true would constitute a breach by the User of these terms and conditions. If the User is dissatisfied with any material on the GM Web Site or with any of terms and conditions of use of this site, the User’s sole and exclusive remedy is to discontinue using the GM Web Site.
2. Interactive Parts of the GM Web Site
The GM Web Site may contain access to mailing lists or other messaging or communication facilities. The User agrees, when taking advantage of such facilities, not to do any of the following: (a) defame, abuse, harass, stalk, threaten or otherwise violate the legal, moral, or human rights of others (such as rights of privacy and publicity); (b) publish, post, distribute or disseminate any defamatory, infringing, obscene, indecent or unlawful material or information; (c) upload or attach files that contain software or other material protected by intellectual property laws (or by rights of privacy) unless the User owns or controls the rights thereto or has received all necessary consents; (d) upload or attach files that contain viruses, corrupted files, or any other similar software or programmes that may damage the operation of another's computer; (e) delete any author attributions, legal notices or proprietary designations or labels in any file that is uploaded; (f) falsify the origin or source of software or other material contained in a file that is uploaded; (g) advertise or offer to sell any goods or services, or conduct or forward surveys, contests, or chain letters; or (h) download any file posted by another User that the User knows, or reasonably should know, cannot be legally distributed in such manner. The GM reserves the absolute right to delete any material posted to the GM Web Site without notice to the User.
The GM accepts no responsibility or liability in respect of the conduct of any User in connection with such facilities, or for any material submitted by Users and carried on the GM Web Site including, for example, responsibility or liability for the accuracy or reliability of any information, data, opinions, advice or statements made in such material.

Please remember that any information that is disclosed in the GM Web Site becomes public information and you should exercise caution when deciding to disclose your personal information.
 
3. Links to Third-Party Web Sites
The GM provides a number of links to third-party web sites for the convenience of its Users. The inclusion of these links does not in any way imply endorsement by the GM. Since these links are not under the control of the GM, it shall not be responsible for the contents of these linked sites or the opinions and statements expressed therein. This also applies to any additional links that may appear within these sites.
 
4. Linking to the GM Web Site
Generally, Internet web sites may link to the GM Web Site without seeking the permission of the GM. However, such links must clearly identify the GM as the source of the information displayed and preserve the integrity of the GM web pages, without alteration.
