Harmonization of public polices


The GM supports national initiatives (for example, in Mexico and Ecuador) by providing a methodological approach to improving policy instruments for rural development. It also promotes dialogue between decision makers on formulating and implementing the reforms needed to remove existing policy barriers to resource mobilization.

Economic assessment of land degradation

The GM, in partnership with the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), is supporting the elaboration of national-level assessments on both the real and potential impacts of land degradation on national or local economies. These assessments will provide government decision makers, particularly those from the ministries of planning and finance, with the rationale for increasing investments in sustainable land management (SLM).

Engagement of civil society organizations

The GM is working with the LAC members of the Desertification International Network of NGOs (RIOD), trough a collaboration agreement to implement initiatives in Central America and Peru. This collaboration agreement supports the active engagement of civil society organizations in designing and implementing national and subregional IFSs
